Level 2 Foil Refereeing Practical Assessment

This practical assessment is for referees who have passed the British Fencing Level 2 Foil Theory Examination and are ready to complete their Level 2 qualification.

Candidates are expected to arrive with a good knowledge of the Rules of Foil, including safety checks, hand signals, and effective piste management and discipline.

You will be assessed on your ability to referee foil bouts confidently, make accurate decisions, use clear hand signals, and manage the piste, fencers and spectators effectively.

The fee for the practical assessment is £20, payable when booking.

Please note that all candidates are expected to attend the Referee Briefing at 9.00am on the assessment day.

As candidates' practical standards can only be assessed on the day, it is not possible to predict in advance how much each referee will be used during the competition. We hope all referees will be able to officiate throughout the day. Referees will receive £85 for a full day's refereeing, paid on a pro rata basis if they referee for a significantly shorter period.

If the assessment becomes oversubscribed, we may need to allocate some candidates to a future assessment date. Where this is necessary, we will take factors such as age, experience and referee development into account when making allocations.

Prerequisite: You must have passed the British Fencing Level 2 Foil Theory Examination before booking and send us proof ASAP - at least one month before your assessment date.

By booking this L2 Foil Refereeing Practical Assessment, you confirm that you have read and agree to follow the relevant Cambridge Sword policies, including the ‘Spectator and Competition Conduct’, ‘Coach/Volunteer Code of Conduct’, ‘British Fencing Membership and Insurance Requirements Policy’, ‘Payments, Booking, Refunds and Cancellations Policy’ and, ‘WhatsApp and Digital Messaging Policy’. You also acknowledge the ‘Member, Parent and Participant Privacy Notice’.
