New Year 2, 3 & 4 Fencing Programme
This exciting new course for Years 2, 3 and 4 guides students towards achieving Cambridge Sword Awards Levels 1–5 by the end of term. Each session celebrates effort and progress with a “Fencer of the Week” announcement, and the group will elect a Captain and Vice-Captain to support the coach and act as positive role models.
Through fencing games and sword-in-hand activities, students will develop fine motor control, agility, coordination, and spatial awareness, using fencing as a powerful way to build physical ability.
Alongside practical training, pupils will explore the history, rules, and traditions of sword fighting, helping them develop a broader understanding of sport, competition, and participation.
At Cambridge Sword, we believe in showing up ready to improve and giving our best every day. Our sessions encourage team spirit, mutual respect, dedication, and celebrating achievement. Classes are designed to be lively, engaging, and inclusive, ensuring every child receives the same high-quality experience. Fencing is used not only to teach sport, but also to build confidence, wellbeing, and a positive sense of community.
What to bring and wear
All fencing equipment is provided during the session. Participants must wear long tracksuit trousers (with pockets taped or sewn shut) and trainers. Please also bring plenty of water, a dry T-shirt, and a warm top or coat for after the session.
If your child has fenced for less than one term, they will receive temporary (10 weeks) free membership of the British Fencing Association. From the second term onward, this must be maintained with an annual membership fee of £15.00.
