Join us for the St Marys After School Fencing Session, exclusively for pupils of St Marys School.
This engaging and energetic club offers a fantastic opportunity to learn and enjoy the sport of fencing in a friendly environment.
The club is led by experienced coach Sarah Paveley, an ex British national team member and Commonwealth medalist. Enthusiastic coach Archie Broughton will take the St Mary's session. Archie has a strong fencing background and sports science qualification.
All fencing equipment is provided for each session. To participate, you must book in advance to ensure your details are recorded and you are covered by our insurance. Please note that fencing membership with the British Fencing Association is required for all committed fencers, providing benefits and comprehensive insurance protection. New fencers who have fenced less than one term will receive a free temporary membership for ten weeks, which can be upgraded at the end of two weeks for c£20 annually..
Fencing is a sport that appeals to all types of people, offering both mental stimulation and physical fitness. It promotes flexibility, posture, and strength, and provides a rewarding sense of achievement.
The club follows the British Academy of Fencing syllabus, offering opportunities for beginners to earn bronze and silver performance awards in their first year. Participants are encouraged to progress at their own pace and may join advanced evening sessions in Cambridge when ready.
Wear comfortable long trousers with sewn or taped pockets, trainers, and bring water, a dry T-shirt, and a warm top for your journey home. Make sure your hair is tied back and not over your collar. We look forward to welcoming you to a fun, challenging, and rewarding fencing experience.
