This will be a dynamic, buzzing fencing session, coached by Archie Broughton our enthusiastic new assistant coach and ably assisted by Sarah Paveley a two time commonwealth Silver medalist.
You will learn the basics of our fascinating sport, obtain a recognised proficiency level and start sparring ready to step up to competition but only if you want to - plenty of amazing fencing in the club if you don’t fancy competing.
All kit is supplied at the session. You must wear long tracksuit trousers, pockets taped or sewn up and trainers. Remember to bring plenty of water, a dry T-shirt and warm top/coat to put on as you leave.
If you have fenced less than one term you will receive temporary (10 weeks) free membership of the British Fencing Association which you must maintain at an annual cost of £15.00 from your second term of fencing.
(Membership of the BFA is mandatory for all members of clubs affiliated to the British Fencing Association - it gives many benefits and most importantly, insurance.)
Fencing is fun, mentally taxing and physically demanding but it attracts all shapes and sizes – there is no standard athletic type that is successful at fencing. It appeals to those who are sporty and non-sporty and it can instil a great sense of accomplishment, develop flexibility, posture and strength.
We use the British Fencing Association syllabus and provide fencers with the opportunity to achieve achievement awards in their first years of fencing and the opportunity to join the evening sessions in Cambridge if/when they feel ready.
